Mods and Rockers were two conflicting British youth subcultures of the 1960s.   This exhibit examines the “Mods & Rockers” era in the UK.

The Rocker subculture was centered on motorcycling, and their appearance reflected that.   They generally wore protective clothing such as black leather jackets and motorcycle boots (although they sometimes wore “brothel creeper” shoes).   The common Rocker hairstyle was a pompadour, while their music genre of choice was 1950s rock and roll, played by artists like Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, and Bo Diddley.

The Mod subculture was centered on fashion and music, and many mods rode scooters.  Mods wore suits and other clean-cut outfits, and preferred 1960s music genres such as soul, rhythm and blues, ska beat music and British blues-rooted bands like The Who, The Yardbirds, and The Small Faces.

The exhibit will feature approximately 12 period motorcycles and 12 period scooters, along with material culture, photographs, and interpretive posters.

Cars 4 Critters Exotic Car Show

The staff at the museum are very excited about this Exotic and Sports Car Show!  The show will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 on the beautiful grounds of the AACA Museum in Hershey, PA.   Past years, when this was the Cool Cars for Cats and Canines show there were over 180 cars and a record attendance hundreds of people participating.  We want to thank Betsy & Tom Clark for starting such a fabulous exotic and sports car show and leaving a great legacy.   While the AACA Museum is now taking over this show, we hope to continue this tradition and are inviting car owners  from all over the mid-Atlantic region- Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and even Massachusetts!

The AACA Museum presents a history of the pioneers in the African American community who contributed to the advancement of the automobile industry. These men and women laid the foundation for others to pursue careers in
such fields as franchised car dealers, designers, custom car builders, race car drivers and
manufacturers. Hershey, PA.

Women take the Wheel, Mar 4-30, 2013, at the AACA Museum – A World Class Automotive Experience.

In recognition of Women’s History Month, the AACA Museum will focus on women who made automotive history – and possibly steered the course for who we are today.

Today, over 100 years after the automobile first liberated drivers from horse-drawn buggies, women drive to work, shuttle the kids, and even hold powerful positions in automotive related industries. No one bats an eye.

However, at the turn of the century, only a few women worked outside the home and even fewer owned and drove cars. Victorian women were viewed as too fragile to deal with public affairs, participate in strenuous activity, or operate complex machinery – such as automobiles.

However, the automobile – first a symbol of male power and control – became the perfect vehicle for feminine revolt. For these women, the automobile provided opportunities for work, inventions, adventure and independence.

Matchbox Toy Show

 A Matchbox Toy show will again be held in Hershey! The Diecast Toy Exchange is sponsoring this Matchbox Toy show at the AACA Museum on Sunday, September 23rd from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

This Matchbox toy show is a top notch collector’s event where you are sure to see some rare collectibles as many of the best Matchbox dealers from the East Coast will be on hand with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cars for visitors and enthusiasts to enjoy. A Lesney Matchbox Model is new for this year its number 15 Ford Sierra xr4i model was made in England and will be sold in a clear plastic box. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire the amazing detail put into these miniature cars which are approximately 1:64 scale models of full size cars.

 Admission to the Museum on this day will be just $5.00 per person for ages 4 and older, with children 3 and under FREE.

 This is a great chance for you to enjoy some miniature cars and full size cars on the same day at a terrific price!
