Thanks to their fine-tuned choreography, and even finer harmonies, The Temptations became one of the most successful acts to record for Motown Records. During the group’s five-decade career, these Grammy winners have charted numerous #1 hits including “My Girl,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Get Ready,” “Just My Imagination,” and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone,” among many others. The Four Tops teamed up in high school and spent over four decades without a single personnel change to become one of Motown’s most consistent hit makers. “Baby I Need Your Loving,” “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” “Reach Out (I’ll Be There),” and “Ain’t No Woman (Like the One I’ve Got),” are just some of their well-known hits. Lancaster County is honored to welcome these two talented group of singers on January 17th at the American Music Theatre ! This wonderful show will bring back memories from the 1950s & 1960s in their harmonious singles. I Saw the Figure 5 in GoldCharles Demuths most famous piece of work.[/caption]
Lancaster, PA is home to an artist that made one of the most memorable works of art in the 20th century. Charles Demuth was born in Lancaster, PA on November 8, 1883 right in Downtown Lancaster to Ferdinand and Augusta Demuth. The Demuth family established the oldest continuing tobacco shop and snuff factory in America. His family’s tobacco shop was such a success that Demuth never had to work as a teenager. Charles Demuth or “Deem” as his friends would call him went on to enroll at the Franklin & Marshall Academy to study so that he would be able to take over the family business. Once his parents noticed that he excelled in English, history and language they realized that their sons true passion was in art. From there on out Charles Demuth went on to different cities around the world to become a wonderful artist of Modernism.
The home in which most of his art works were made is now on display as a museum in Downtown Lancaster on East King st. Guests can take a tour of the house as well as see some of his impressive artworks. To see when you can visit the museum when in Lancaster County you can go to the Charles Demuth Museum website.

Walter Eugene “Gene” Clair, of Lititz, one of the Clair “Brothers” Audio entrepreneurs, died December 3, 2013. He was 73. Gene, as everyone knew him, was born May 6th, 1940 to Roy B. Clair and Ellen Mae (Ulrich) Clair, in the Lititz area, and lived there all his life.
He graduated from Warwick High School in 1958 and was awarded as one of the top athletes of his class. He went on to get a two-year degree in Engineering from Penn State York campus. While working in the Foreign Language lab and as general electrician at F&M College, Gene and his brother, Roy, set up the sound for a visiting group — The Four Seasons. The group was so impressed with the sound they asked for the brothers to tour with them, and so the business began. Gene continued to be a sound engineer/mixer for bands such as Elton John, the Moody Blues, Michael Jackson and Peter Wolf, to name a few, and traveled all over the world.
Gene sold his end of the business to his son, Troy, in 1995 and split his time between Lititz and his mountain home in Sinnemahoning, PA. Gene joined the Pennsylvania Forestry Association on the Board of Directors and spent every Penn State home game entertaining friends and family with tailgating extravaganzas.
Lancaster County is knows at the PA Dutch Country, and with good reason. We are home to the oldest Amish communities in the United States. There is plenty to see in and around Lancaster County but probably the most humbling and educational is to learn about the Amish. The Amish live a simple life with no electricity which means no phones, cars or electric as a source for heating or air conditioning. To many it may seem taboo to live such a lifestyle but that is the way that it had been done for centuries before and they have kept it going.
There is plenty to try when it comes to the Amish. There are horse and buggy rides, their food, you could even tour a Amish village to see what it would be like to live like an Amish. You can go onto the PA Dutch Country website to see more attractions that you can visit.
